Throughout its storied history, WWE has seen the rise of numerous anti-establishment figures, superstars who defied the norm, challenged authority, and, in doing so, won the hearts of fans around the world. Among the most compelling of these modern-day rebels is Sami Zayn.
Sami Zayn has carved out a unique space for himself in WWE’s vast roster, standing apart not just through his captivating in-ring style and sharp-witted promos but also through the values and identity he proudly represents. His journey reflects that of a performer who never fit the typical mold, and never tried to.
Sami Zayn reveals his ethnic roots and how WWE helped him challenge the stereotypes

Sami Zayn remains one of the few Arab wrestlers to have made a significant mark in WWE. His presence holds immense value for the company, particularly as WWE continues expanding its global reach, most notably in the Middle East.
In that context, Zayn is more than just a performer; he represents a bridge between cultures and a symbol of progress in an industry that has often lacked diverse representation.
In a candid interview with ESPN, Sami Zayn reflected on his ethnic background and the importance of representation in mainstream wrestling. Sami Zayn shared:
I think it’s important for youngsters from all walks of life to have some sort of representative that they can look up to and aspire to be and let them know there’s a chance for anybody from any background. That’s the spirit of America, right? Anybody from any background can make it anywhere with enough hard work
Additionally, he spoke about how WWE has given him a platform to challenge long-held stereotypes and redefine what it means to be an Arab Muslim in professional sports entertainment. By staying true to his identity, Zayn has inspired countless fans around the world, showing that authenticity and cultural pride can thrive even on the grandest stage.

Furthermore, Sami Zayn also commented on how Arabs were portrayed in American movies. He opined that by looking at Arab villains in movies, he never felt like that was him. However, WWE provided him the platform to challenge these stereotypes, as he became central to an emerging storyline once again.
Sami Zayn came to the centre of WWE storyline ahead of Backlash

True to form, Sami Zayn is once again at the center of WWE action. On a recent episode of Monday Night RAW, tensions reached a boiling point during a high-stakes match between Seth Rollins and Jey Uso for the World Heavyweight Championship. As the match intensified, with Bron Breakker and Paul Heyman backing Rollins, chaos unfolded.
In a shocking turn of events, Zayn stormed the ring out of nowhere, ambushing Rollins’ associates in an all-out attack. Just when it seemed like Bron Breakker’s raw power outmatched Zayn, the arena erupted as CM Punk charged to the ring, steel chair in hand. Punk unleashed a brutal assault on Rollins and his allies, making his allegiance crystal clear.
The battle lines have been drawn: Zayn and CM Punk now stand united against Seth Rollins and his powerful faction. As this new rivalry heats up, it promises to deliver a compelling blend of personal vendettas, shifting alliances, and the kind of high-stakes storytelling that keeps fans on the edge of their seats.
Backlash 2025 will be streaming live on Peacock in the United States and Netflix everywhere else on May 10.
